Things you would like to know
about traveling in China!

Spring and Fall is probably the best time of year to visit China as the weather is generally mild. You will need sweaters and light to medium warm jackets and clothing in Beijing, but it could be warm in Shanghai and southern China. Winter is cold in central and northern China, but usually mild in southern area. People dress causally in China. Bring comfortable clothing. Pay special attention to having comfortable sturdy shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking.

Keep in mind that you can get just about any thing you need in China so it is not to big of a problem if you didn't bring everything from home.

There is a cardinal rule when traveling - If you cannot carry it, don't take it.
Usually the airlines will allow 2 checked bags. It is suggested, however, that you take 1 bag to check. If you buy a lot of stuff in China, then you will be able to check 2 bags on the way back.

Travelers Checks are good to have. If they are lost you can get your money back. Additionally, you get a better exchange rate than using cash. It is a good idea to take a credit card just in case! Contact the credit card provider to inform them you may use the card in China. You can set a daily limit on how much can be spent on the card. A charge on the card may not be accepted if you have not informed the bank that you are going to use the card in China. If you use the credit card it could be costly. You will have to pay the exchange rate set by the bank, which is
usually not  a favorable rate and there may be high services charges. All in all the best way is to have travelers checks.

The workshop and the travel company do not provide health insurance. You should contact your health insurance provider to determine if you will be covered in China by your insurance. If you need coverage in China ask the travel company if they can help you obtain insurance coverage for China.


Make sure you have enough of your prescription medicines for the tour. It is a good idea to take a copy of your prescriptions with you.

Have your cell phone prepared to use in China. You should contact your cell phone provider to obtain instruction on how to do this. In China you can purchase a sim chip for you phone and minutes for a very reasonable cost. The cell phone is a good way to stay in contact when you are off on you own.

You must have a passport that will not expire for at least 6 months as of the date of entry into China. If your passport needs to be renewed please take immediate action to obtain a new passport.

You need to obtain a visa from the Chinese Consulate. The cost of a 1 year multiple entry visa is: USD$140.00

The travel company will obtain your visa for a $20.00 fee.
