July 15 Fri Depart Lax
July 16 Sat Arrive Beijing in the evening, Check into hotel.
July 17 Sun 7:00am Breakfast orientation meeting. Then free Day in Beijing.
Lunch on your own.
Evening: Kung Fu show.
July 18 Mon
First Day of Workshop Class, Morning session 9:30am to 12:00
noon. Introductions, show past images. Workshop Orientation and
Discussion of photo-essay project assignment.
Lunch 12:00noon to 2:00pm. All workshop participants have lunch
together.
Afternoon session 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Select Photo-Essay team partners and topics for Essay project.
Discussion concerning feasibility and scheduling of project
photography, image editing and print production.
7:00pm to 10:00pm. Dinner with China Photographers
Association.
July 19 Tue
9:30am to 5:00pm. Each team meets in morning to select
locations for doing photography. Then goes out for the day to
make photographs for project.
7:00pm to 9:30pm. Meet after dinner to show and discuss images
made that day. Discuss how images might be edited, how to
improve photographic techniques for the following days.

9:30am to 5:00pm. Each team meets in morning to select
locations for doing photography. Then goes out for the day to
make photographs for project.

Forbidden City.

the day to make photographs for project.
7:00pm – 9:30pm. Discuss choosing images to use in essay and
for exhibition. Photoshop demonstration.

9:30am to 5:00pm. Each team meets in morning to select
locations for doing photography. Then each team goes out for the
day to make photographs for project.
7:00pm to 9:00pm. Visit CFP (largest stock agency in China).
July 27 Wed
9:30am to 5:00pm. Each team meets in morning to select
locations for doing photography. Then each team goes out for
the day to make photographs for project.
7:00pm to 9:30pm. Instructors show their work

Lama Temple, Confucian Temple and Imperial College. Group
tickets and transportation provided.

August 1 Mon
9:30am to 5:00pm. Editing images for essay and exhibition.
7:00pm to 9:30pm. Meet to discuss progress editing images for
essay and exhibition. Discuss photo-editing techniques to
improve images.
August 2 Tue
9:30am to 5:00pm. Complete image editing and start making
prints.
7:00pm to 9:30pm. Dinner with Beijing Photo-Editors TBA.
August 3 Wed
9:30am to 5:00pm. Finish making prints and hang exhibition in
Gallery.
Evening TBA.
August 4 Th
9:30am to 5:00pm. Complete exhibition installation.
7:00pm to 10:00pm. Photographer’s reception in gallery.

All costs and expenses to be paid by Workshop participants.
The instructors will accompany individual teams of students by appointment on selected days provided for photography on essay projects.
Students may determine that they have more than sufficient time to work on their project and wish to visit and photograph other locations. There will, also, be several free days provided for the participants to select their activities or use the days for rest. Suggestions for free day activities are: shopping at Xidan district for clothing, watches and other trinkets, shopping at Zhongguan Cun for camera equipment and electronics, Temple of Heaven, Fragrant Hills, Beijing Zoo, Olympic venues, Beijing Cultural Park, Marco Polo Bridge, Beijing Amusement Park, Downtown Hutongs and Sha Jia Hai Lakes. Drum and Bell Towers, National Art Museum, Capital Museum, Gardens at Beijing University, Bei Hai Park, Day trip on Bullet train to Tianjin.
Tours will be planned for visiting certain sites on weekends.
We are continuously working on arranging activities and events. Additionally, circumstances may occur that require the change, modification or cancellation of the participation in an activity or event as indicated on the itinerary. Therefore, the itinerary is subject to change at any time.
Each participant must have a valid passport (With expiration date at least 6 months in the future as of the date of entry into China) and Chinese visa.

December 26, 2007: Depart Los Angeles, California, USA for Beijing, China. For departure from other cities contact Amos Wu at CTS Int'l USA, Los Angeles branch (tel: 888-664-5678).
December 27, 2007: Arrive Beijing. Check into the hotel. Activities to be arranged according to time of arrival.
December 28, 2007:
Day 1 of Workshop (time of workshop session to be arranged).
I. Introduction
A. Faculty and Students meet.
1. Each participant introduces himself or herself.
II. Presentation by Faculty includes discussion of:
A. Purpose, Goals of Workshop.
1. To photograph Olympic preparations, facilities, other places and events of artistic, cultural and historical importance by cooperative teams of Chinese and USA Photographers.
2. The photographs are intended to be included in a book. The purpose of the book to serve as a portfolio piece for the participants. Printing, publication and distribution of the book is subject to obtaining sufficient funding from sponsors.
3. The book shall contain the participant’s photographs and commentary. Photographs and commentary to be included in the book shall be selected by the workshop faculty from those submitted by workshop participants.
III. Presentation of Portfolios
A. Participants present and discuss their portfolio.
B. Discussion of portfolio and what participant hopes to accomplish during workshop.
C. Faculty may suggest areas of concentration for participant during workshop.
IV. Lunch Break.
V. Participants select partners to work with.
VI. Discussion concerning locations to be photographed.

December 29, 2007 and December 30, 2007:
Workshop visits Olympic sites for the day to photograph. Workshop critique of the days photographs in evening. Chinese photographers may join workshop in evening and speak to workshop participants.
December 31, 2007: Meals included: food included at New Years Eve party.
Each team of participants will independently go to locations of their choice to photograph during the day. The workshop shall sponsor a New Years Eve Party for the USA and Chinese participants and invited guests. The New Years Eve Party will be an unusual opportunity to meet local Beijing people from the university, media professionals and other interesting invited guests.
January 1, 2008: Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Workshop visits Palace Museum and Tiananmen Square during the day. Critique following dinner.
January 2, 2008:
Workshop visits Olympic sites to photograph. Critique in evening.
January 3, 2008:
Each team to photograph independently full day and evening.
January 4, 2008:
Workshop visits Olympic and other sites of interest during the day. Critique in evening.
January 5, 2008: Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Workshop visits the Summer Palace and Yuan Ming Yuan during the day. Free evening. Entertainment may be arranged.
January 6, 2008: Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Workshop visits Great Wall during the day. Evening entertainment after dinner will be Peking Opera.
January 7, 2008:
In the morning the Workshop will meet for discussion on selection of photographs and writing commentary for the book. Then the Workshop visits Sha Jia Hia area for tour of Hutong homes by rickshaw (Participants will travel to Hutong area individually with assistance of workshop faculty). Workshop participants are free to photograph the remainder of the day and evening in the Hutong area and enjoy the evening in the surrounding restaurant and bar street areas.
January 8, 2008:
Teams go shopping and photographing. Participants work independently selecting photographs to submit for publication and writing commentary.
January 9, 2008:
Participants submit photographs and commentary. Workshop meets to discuss submissions (time of meeting tba).
January 10, 2008:
Resubmission of photographs and commentary. Final critique (time of critique tba).
January 11, 2008:
Free day. Departure banquet in evening.
January 12, 2008:
Depart for USA.
Breakfast lunch and dinner are included as indicated by the itinerary. Meals not included in the tour package do not present a problem for the participants. Many good and inexpensive places to dine are available on campus and throughout the city of Beijing.
Workshop participants may make arrangements with the travel agency for departure from other USA cities or for extending their visit to China and to travel to other locations.
Due to changes of scheduling by the university or the tour company or unforeseen circumstances the itinerary may be changed without notice.
